For users of Math Companion™ this is an entirely new function. You can add, edit, and delete objectives in Vocabulary Companion™. This is very powerful ability. If you want to create objectives for a specific topic such as a math, science, or literature lesson you can.

NOTE: You can also save word lists you add by saving a worksheet and opening the worksheet using the Open Word List option under the File Menu.

Opening the Objective Database

  1. First choose the Edit Objectives under the Tools Menu.
  2. Objectives Edit Datababe
  3. You will see the main Edit Objectives dialog. From here you can add, edit, or delete an objective.

Adding an Objective

  1. Click on the Add Objective button on the Edit Objectives Database dialog.
  2. The Add Objectives dialog will appear.
  3. First, write a name for the objective in the box labeled Objective.
  4. Next, choose a number for the objective and type it in the box labeled Number. This controls what order the objective will appear in the Objectives List. If you are not sure what number to use click on cancel and go back to the Edit Objectives Database dialog and scroll through the list until you find where you want it to appear. Then, repeat step 2 and 3. The objectives in the list are listed by tens so; you can add nine objectives between any two objectives.
  5. Now type a number between 1 and 8 in the box labeled Type. This will control the color of the objective when it appears in the list. What color is not important; just make sure it is different from the objectives surrounding it, so it will be easier to find when you are scrolling through the list. If you are adding to an existing set of objectives, make sure you choose the same color as the related objectives.
  6. Finally, click on the button labeled OK and your objective will be added to the list.

Editing an Objective

  1. First choose the Edit Objectives under the Tools Menu and the Edit Objectives Database dialog will appear.
  2. Next, highlight the objective you wish to edit.
  3. Click on the button labeled Edit Objective. This function will allow you to change the name, list order, or color of an objective.
  4. The Edit Objective dialog will appear, but unlike when you add an objective all the characteristics of the objective will appear in the boxes.
  5. Object Edit
  6. To edit any of the characteristics just type over the existing text.
  7. Remember, the Number affects the order in which the objective will appear in the Objectives List and the Type controls the color.
  8. Now click on OK and your changes will be saved.

Deleting an Objective

Objectives Edit Datababe

  1. First choose the Edit Objectives under the Tools Menu and the Edit Objectives Database dialog will appear.
  2. Next, highlight the objective you wish to delete and click on the Delete Objectives button.
  3. A dialog box will appear and you will be asked if you are sure you want to delete this objective. Once you do it, it’s gone. You can, however, use the Add Objective function to restore it, if you are careful to give it the same number it had before.
  4. Click OK and you are done.

More About the Select Objectives Window

The Clear Objectives button is a very valuable part of the Select Objectives window. Because the window list is very long, and you could have a multiple objectives set, it’s easy to forget what you have set in different parts of the list. Clicking this button clears all the objectives you have set and allows you to reset.
